Water Quality & Temperature

1. • Water Type: Red OHM Bettas are freshwater fish that require clean, conditioned water. Tap water can be used, but make sure it’s treated with a dechlorinator to remove harmful chemicals. Bettas are sensitive to poor water quality, so regular maintenance is important.
   • Temperature: Red OHM Betta Fish thrive in warmer water. The ideal temperature range is between 24-30°C (75-86°F). It's important to use an aquarium heater to maintain a consistent temperature. Extreme temperature fluctuations can stress the fish and make them more susceptible to diseases.
   • Water pH: The ideal pH level for a Red OHM Betta is between 6.5 and 7.5, slightly acidic to neutral. Regular testing of the water pH ensures that the Betta is living in optimal conditions.

2. Tank Size & Setup

   • Tank Size: While Betta fish are relatively small, they need a minimum of a 5-gallon tank to live comfortably. While they can survive in smaller containers, a larger tank offers better stability and more room to swim.
   • Tank Setup: Provide a tank with a lid, as Betta fish are known to jump out of open aquariums. Decorate the tank with soft plants, caves, and other hiding spots where your Betta can rest. Avoid sharp objects or decorations that could tear the Betta’s delicate fins. Bettas are territorial, so it’s best to avoid keeping multiple males in the same tank.
   • Filtration: A proper filtration system is necessary for keeping the water clean and healthy. However, Bettas don’t do well with strong water currents, so make sure to choose a filter with a gentle flow.

3. Tank Mates & Compatibility

   • Ideal Companions: While Red OHM Bettas are generally peaceful, they are very territorial, especially with other males of their species. Therefore, it's best to keep them alone, or with non-aggressive species such as snails, shrimp, or peaceful fish like neon tetras or Corydoras catfish.
   • Avoid Aggressive Fish: Do not keep your Betta with other male Bettas, as they will fight. Additionally, fin-nipping species like barbs or other aggressive fish should also be avoided.

4. Diet

   • Diet: Red OHM Bettas are carnivorous and thrive on a protein-rich diet. Their diet should consist of high-quality Betta pellets, freeze-dried or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A varied diet will keep them healthy and enhance their vibrant coloration.
   • Feeding Frequency: Feed your Betta once or twice a day. Make sure to provide only as much food as the Betta can consume in 2-3 minutes to prevent water contamination.

5. Common Health Issues

   • Fin Rot: Bettas can be prone to fin rot, a bacterial infection that causes the fins to deteriorate. This can be prevented by maintaining proper water quality and avoiding overfeeding.
   • Ich (White Spot Disease): A common parasite that affects Betta fish. It appears as small white spots on the fish’s body. The infection can be treated by raising the water temperature and using a special anti-parasitic medication.
   • Velvet Disease: Caused by a parasite, Velvet Disease presents as a yellowish or gold dust on the Betta’s body. It is highly contagious, but can be treated with copper-based medications.

6. Breeding

   • Breeding Setup: Bettas are bubble nest builders. The male creates a nest of bubbles at the water’s surface and entices the female to lay eggs. Once the eggs are laid, the male fertilizes them and protects the nest. It's essential to separate the male and female after breeding to prevent the male from attacking the female.
   • Fry Care: After the eggs hatch, the fry will remain attached to the nest until they are strong enough to swim. Once the fry can swim freely, they should be fed finely crushed Betta food or live baby brine shrimp.
